The city of Baltimore is located in the State of Maryland and impressively ranks as the largest port of all the States in the mid-Atlantic today. Named after Irelands Lord Baltimore, who founded it in 1729, it holds great historic significance as the home where Francis Scott Key penned "The Star Spangled Banner" while looking out over the water. The Baltimore Waterfront originally started its successful operation during the early 1700's as an established port for tobacco. By the 1800's a major granary on the harbor produced an overwhelming business boom with the food industry. In addition to its thriving trade industry, the port served as the second largest area for the arrival of immigrants into the United States, second to Ellis Island. Another of Baltimore's artistic claim to fame is the impressive burial place of the world famous poet Edgar Allan Poe.

Today, the Baltimore Waterfront is an important focal point, generating income for many. It is a well-established thriving community enjoying a successful business in the tourist industry and is one of Baltimore's most significant economic resources. Now considered a major tourist destination known the world over, it is the home to many cultural, unique and fine-eating establishments found at Harborplace. Sailing enthusiasts flock to the Baltimore Waterfront not only for it being the home of an accredited United States sailing facility, also for the amazing water vessels on the golden harbor. On any given day or evening observers are treated to thrilling sailboat races operated by seasoned crews as well as stirring buoy team racing.
